Stop Trying to Be Joe Rogan
One of my clients told me they wanted to record podcast interviews with realtors… in coffee shops. Or bars. With multiple cameras. A custom intro. Fully produced, start to finish.
Sounds cool, right?
It also sounds exhausting.
They were two months in and hadn’t published a single episode. Not because they didn’t have good ideas. Not because realtors didn’t want to talk. But because the plan was too complex to survive real life.
I’ve seen this over and over. Business owners start something new, and without realizing it, they build a machine so heavy it can’t leave the ground.
Done beats cinematic
Here’s what we did instead. We simplified the setup and moved everything to Riverside.fm. High-quality audio, video, remote recording, multitrack editing, and clip generation all from a web browser in the comfort of his own office.
They now can record multiple episodes in a single afternoon. No travel. No tech chaos. No lost days, and here’s the real win. During each session, they also record a quick promo reel for the guest which is a 30-second highlight that the guest can share on their own socials. That one move made it way easier to get realtors to say yes. Now it’s not just a podcast interview. It’s a free marketing tool for them.
You’re building a brand but more importantly you’re building momentum.
We’re not trying to be viral. We’re trying to be visible. The goal isn’t to blow up on Spotify or Apple podcasts, the goal is to start conversations with local agents, build referral trust, and showcase some social proof. You do that with consistency, not cinematography. The polished, camera crew at the café version looks impressive, but it doesn’t get results if you never ship. You can always level up later. But first, you need volume. You need reps. You need proof this strategy is working before you overinvest.
Here’s the question I ask every client who’s stuck on production ideas:
What’s the fastest, laziest way you could publish something valuable this week?
Start there. Then build up. Not the other way around.
